The Skyline GTR is definitely a machine for every racer and tuner. With 280 horsepower to tap at its stock version, just seeing a parked stock Skyline GTR brings frills up every racer's body. Its powerful RB26DETT is capable of hitting 1000hp when tuned, and a perfect example of this mean machine is the Autoplus's Skyline GTR R34 Vspec II Nur. Definitely, this car will make mince meat out of Ferraris and Porsches.
This Skyline started when Manuel Go who is an architect by trade and owner of Autoplus Philippines, Manila's premier multi-awarded tune shop. He decided to own a GTR R34 knowing that the R34 would be the last Skyline produced with the RB26DETT engine. He purchased a fresh unit from the land of sushi, and had it shipped to Skyline Motors in California USA for its left-hand conversion. For a car to be able to run on Philippine roads, it has to be left-hand drive. Mr. Go spared no chance and he needed the conversion to be perfect and profesionally done. Mr. Go was successful and If it were my first time to see a Skyline, I would think that this unit was a production unit!
After its conversion, the Skyline was shipped back to the Philippines into the hands of Autoplus, where the major tuning and rework was to be done. Knowing the capabilities of the RB26DETT, a JUN Special 2.7 liter race engine was ordered, together with numerous JUN goodies. This was complimented by twin HKS GT3240 ball-bearing turbo and an APEXi SPL VMAX intercooler. A Hollinger 6-speed sequential transmision and a OS Giken Quad plate clutch was used. Since this car was also to be used on the streets, ride comfort could not be sacrificed. a JUN drag suspension and shocks was used together with Nismo stabilizer bars. And to get the JGTC feel, a set of 18 x 9.5 NISMO LM-GT4 Black Limited II (JGTC Center Lock Style) rims were used. Top Secret front bumpers and Veilside sideskirts added beauty to the beast. The result was an 857 horsepower engine! Asked how much was spent Mr. Go responded "Truthfully, I don't remember and I don't want to remember. It kind of takes the enjoyment out of it." Regarding testing Mr. Go commented "I was informed that the car did 220kph in 3rd gear at 8,000rpm during track testing. 220kph doesn't sound bad, especially considering that the car revs till 10,500rpm and with three gears to go, I'm sure it'll do more than 300kph easily. Imagine if we didn't run out of tarmac!?
While many car enthusiasts will want to get their hands on Mr. Go's Skyline or have a heavily modified Skyline GT-R, the fact is that it is not for everyone. As the popular saying goes, power is nothing without control.
The Autoplus Skyline GTR is the most powerful streetcar in the Philippines, and with it still undergoing tuning, we are pretty sure that this Godzilla will soon be making the magazines, worldwide.
